Relationship with God

Because they don't like church, or religious people, many have decided that religion’s not for them. Guess what? Religion isn't what anyone has ever needed, and it is not what we at Emmanuel Christian Centre are promoting.

Religion has never got anyone into heaven, and self-righteous living hasn't moved anybody closer to God. The living God who created the universe is not sitting up in Heaven hoping that you find religion. He wants you to actually know Him.

In the beginning, the human race was created to fellowship with God. In perfect love He crafted each person, desiring to walk with them in an intimate relationship. That is true of you also. He knows you better than you know yourself, and He still wants to reveal Himself to you. He wants to walk with you through this life, talk you through every moment, and direct you in the paths that He has planned for you.

Although God longs for a relationship with everyone, not all choose to walk His way. To have a relationship with God, you must first recognize that you need Him.

The one thing that will keep you from knowing God is sin. Sin is disobedience to God and the result of doing things our way instead of His. We weren't designed to do things our own way in seperation from God!

Now, you might feel offended with that concept and disagree with that diagnosis of sin separating you from God. However, unless you are perfect (according to God's standards), then you are a sinner and sin produces spiritual death. Sin is serious and God hates sin!

As Christians we believe that a little over 2000 years ago, Jesus came to Earth to restore our fellowship with God and remove the problem of sin. He was perfect and therefore the only worthy sacrifice. He lived His earthly life in human form just like you and me yet in constant fellowship with His Father, proving it's possible to live in a close relationship with God. He allowed Himself to be tortured and nailed on a cross to die, taking the punishment for our sin! The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes on Him shall not perish but will have eternal life”. This eternal life can start now and this eternal life is a life of really knowing God! That's good news!

So now a relationship with God is available and actually much easier than you would expect. Jesus did the hard work and made a way back to God for us. To enter into this relationship with God we must first become His child. To become His child means to turn from running your own life and begin a new life with God. Repent (turn away) from your sin and ask Jesus to forgive you. Thank Him for making it possible to bring you back to God. Ask Him to become the centre of your life, then accept what He did for you on the cross.

The benefits of being His child are immeasurable. They include having peace in every situation, having the fullness of joy in your life and the assurance of a life beyond the grave. However the greatest privilege is to get to know the Creator of the universe personally! This great Creator who loves you so much.

How about you? Are you ready to begin a relationship with the God who created you? If your heart is right, it is actually quite simple. You can say a simple prayer like the example shown below. Just speak to God honestly and speak from your heart.

"Father God, thank you for loving me. Even though I don’t deserve your love, you showed your love to me by sending your son Jesus to die in my place. I recognise that I am a sinner and I need Jesus. Father, I want to become your child and I desire a relationship with you. Please come and take over my life. I surrender everything that I am to you. Please forgive me of my sins, and change me from the inside out, doing whatever it takes to bring me closer to you. Thank you for loving me. Amen"

If you prayed something like the example above and you desire to get to know God then contact us at Emmanuel Christian Centre and ask for one of our Ministers. We want you to grow in the Lord and experience the realities of a life knowing Him. Like you would expect from any loving family, we want to support you all the way and to show you how you can know your Father,
