portraitcarltonandlynneHello my name is Lynne and I am privileged to serve here at Emmanuel Christian Centre as a trustee and coordinator of the Carelink department. I am married to Carlton and we have two children, Liam and Rachel.

I was born in Kendal but spent my early childhood at a Methodist Guild hotel near Grange over Sands where both my parents worked. I grew up attending a church school and Sunday School and always had an interest in spirituality but didn’t make a decision to follow Jesus until later in my life. My teenage years were turbulent, marked by insecurity, I tried many ways to mask the pain but nothing worked and I ended up not really knowing who I was.

At the age of 21 I met my now husband, Carlton. Although not following Jesus at the time Carlton had been brought up in a Christian home and his parents were at the time members of Emmanuel Christian Centre. Three months before our wedding Carlton's mum invited me to a concert at the Centre. It was a very different to my experience of traditional churches and I found myself going back the following week and most weeks after that. It was at one of these services that I responded to an altar call and made a decision to follow Christ. However, it was some time later, after the birth of our two children, when I fully experienced Gods love pouring into me, cleansing me from my past and that I truly felt rescued by God.

The following years have been a journey with life’s ups and downs; God didn’t say we wouldn’t experience life’s trials but He did promise to be with us through them and I become more convinced of this every day. I recognise that before I knew Him when I was living my own way He extended His grace and mercy and I find His love is truly amazing. My old insecurities have been replaced with a surety of His love for me.

Carlton and I love to serve both the body here and the wider community which means we have mostly been involved in practical ministries. However, over recent years and months we have come to recognise that intimacy with God should be our number one priority, to know God and be known by Him. One of my favourite worship songs is Jesus all for Jesus. One of the lines in the song states that “it is only in Your will that I am free”. This is my desire to be in His will at all times giving everything for Him.

I am very much a work in progress but I put my trust in a God, who according to Ephesians 3:20 in the Amplified Bible, “is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.”
