Community Deacons

As a local charity we want to serve the community of Ulverston and be part of the town's culture. This is the aim of Community Deacons; to open our hearts, to lend a hand and to serve the town. As a church we want to be "salt and light" in the town God has placed us; not just a salt container or light under a shade, but actively being involved in the healing, preservation and illumination of the community around us. Community Deacons love to serve Ulverston in any way possible, whether that be by providing water for events, offering practical help to residents, supporting our emergency services, visiting nursing homes, assisting other charities, helping with the shopping or any other way we can demonstrate kindness to those around us.

The term 'deacon' is taken from the biblical word 'diakonos' which means 'a servant' or 'one kicking up dust whilst running on an errand'. Don't be suprised to see one of our Community Deacons kicking up dust as they hasten to serve Ulverston and its people.

The Community Deacon department at Emmanuel Christian Centre is led by Paul and Karen Sedgwick.
